About Our Journey

Mental health is a growing industry. The demand for services and support is growing like never before. At Van Ryan Therapies we believe that generalised counselling services should be available for everyone.  Often the demand for services both city and rural, is so high that many people either go without support or are forced to wait months for someone to talk to. At Van Ryan Therapies, our accredited counsellors do their best to meet the needs of our clients and support them on their mental health journey.


Our counsellors are accredited with both the Australian Counselling Association, the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia as well as the International Coach Federation. This ensures that our clients are supported by qualified professionals all of whom have completed a Degree in Counselling as a minimum.

Daniel Johnson

Daniel Johnson is a tertiary qualified, experienced counsellor and mental health practitioner. Daniel works with his clients to help them achieve the most out of life through compassionate understanding and unconditional positive regard. Daniel has a calm, easy going nature and works with a variety of clients using tools and therapy techniques such as:

  • Humanistic/Client-Centered Counselling (PCT)
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • Solution focused brief therapy (SFBT)
  • Acceptance commitment therapy (ACT)
  • Narrative Therapy

Along with the assimilation of other constructive counselling therapies, Daniel believes in working with clients to understand their lives from a holistic, biopsychosocial perspective.


Life is about growth and our ability to change as we grow. Nobody is an expert on life and what the future may hold for us. Therefore it makes sense to seek support and guidance in the times of our life when we need it most. To want to change and accept growth as a fundamental part of life requires enormous courage and respect for ourselves as human beings. Through the fundamental principles of Carl Rodgers person centered therapy and an emphasis on unconditional positive regard, Daniel works to create a counselling relationship with clients that is built on respect, trust and congruence. No matter what walk of life you come from or what you may have experienced in life so far, change and growth is possible for all of us. Sometimes you don’t need to know where you are going in life, but instead just decide not to stay where you are now. All change begins with a single step, your step.
